About The Sisters of St. Clare (Poor Clares)

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Clare are popularly known here as the Poor Clares.  They have one monastery in the diocese of Mbarara which is called the “Monastery of the Holy Church". The Monastery was founded by the Poor Clares from Nancy (France) who were invited by the then Bishop of Mbarara, the Rt. Rev. Jean-Marie Gaёtan Ogez, in 1967.

Being a contemplative congregation, prayer life forms a big part of their daily life. Even though they spend more time on prayer they also do manual work and other chores in community for purposes of self sustainance.

The Sisters celebrated their Golden Jubilee on 25 January 2019.
